Apple has launched the new MacBook Pro with M4 chips late last month, and it appears they have a previously undiscussed upgrade.
According to Ross Young of Display Supply Chain Consultants, the new MacBook Pro has a quantum dot screen. The quantum dot film replaces the red CSF phosphor film used in previous models.
Big Apple shows news: they have adopted quantum dots for the first time. The latest MacBook Pros (M4) use a quantum dot (QD) film instead of a red KSF phosphor film.
In the past, Apple chose the KSF solution due to its better efficiency and lack of cadmium (Cd), but… pic.twitter.com/5olq9lEHs9

The QD film delivers better color gamut and motion performance compared to the red KSF phosphor film, and is now also cadmium-free. It didn’t used to be the case, which is apparently why Apple has stuck with the KSF solution until now.
This improvement applies to all new MacBook Pros, with or without nanotexture. Keep in mind that the new laptops still have LCD screens and this QD film won’t make them perform as well as QD-OLED screens, but it’s still a small step forward.
