Mediatek is expected to launch the Dimensity 9400 chipset next month. It will feature Arm’s Immortalis-G925 graphics unit, which the Taiwanese company claims will be “the highest performing, most efficient GPU to date.”
Recent benchmarks confirmed that this could be true in terms of raw power. The GPU scored 134 fps in the GFX Aztec 1440p off-screen Vulkan benchmark, much higher than the 72 fps on the Apple A18 Pro and the 95 fps on last year’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
The Aztec test is part of the GFXBench suite, which is designed to simulate an intensive 3D gaming-like environment and push the graphics hardware to its limits, especially with Vulkan, one of the powerful graphics APIs.
The “1440p” part means that the test was run at the QHD resolution setting, which is a higher level of detail. The off-screen test means that the graphics unit is only tested for its raw performance without actually being affected by the resolution.
The test clearly shows the full potential of the Dimensity 9400 with Immortalis-G925, but ultimately a chipset (and its components) are only as good as the phone manufacturer itself. So we’ll have to wait and see which companies will opt for the Mediatek chipset for their 2025 flagships.
