In recent weeks we’ve seen many Chinese smartphone makers launching devices with 6,000 mAh batteries and larger, but according to a new rumor from China, this is just the beginning.

Next year we can reportedly expect to see both Redmi phones and OnePlus handsets with 7,000 mAh batteries. This, combined with the ever-increasing efficiency of the mobile chipset, means that battery life should certainly no longer be an issue by 2025, even for the most demanding users.

It’s been a long time coming, and at least this year’s 6,000+ mAh cells haven’t suffered any penalty in terms of phone thickness thanks to the new silicon technology used, and we assume the same will be the case next year – or, at least worst case we will see marginal increases in thickness that are easy to live with due to the improvement in longevity.

Unfortunately, the source of this rumor didn’t detail which Redmi and OnePlus devices will go up to 7,000 on the mAh scale, but we’re assuming the Redmi K90 series and the OnePlus 14 are the main contenders. We’ll let you know when we know more.
