OnePlus (and its parent company Oppo) have been involved in a very lengthy patent dispute with Nokia in the past, which at one point saw OnePlus and Oppo devices banned from sale in Germany (and this only ended a few months ago), and now history is unfortunately repeating itself.
Although the problem this time is not with Nokia, it is also a patent dispute, with InterDigital, over key patents for 5G and other mobile technologies. And that sounds quite similar to what the Nokia kerfuffle was about.
The OnePlus 12 is among the victims
OnePlus’ online store in Germany once again has no smartphones for sale, although the other products seem to work fine – so it’s clearly about 5G. It is unclear when OnePlus will be able to sell its devices in Germany again.
The company has issued the following official statement in this regard:
OnePlus is committed to intellectual property rights and fair access to standard essential patents, which is essential for driving innovation in the industry. We will continue to negotiate with InterDigital and want to resolve this matter amicably. Meanwhile, our commitment in Europe remains unchanged and we will continue to provide excellent products and services to our users.
