Samsung and other Android devices have been supporting RCS (Rich Communication Services) for several years, and finally iPhones are getting in on the action.
Apple devices running iOS 18.1 also support the service, the cross-platform successor to SMS and MMS. Samsung has posted several videos showing its benefits.
The new standard enables fast sharing of high-quality photos, easy replies to other posts and improved group chats with a simple click.
For RCS Messages to work, Android and iOS users who want to communicate together must have Google Messages installed and RCS enabled in the settings. The “Send photos faster” option also allows you to disable HQ image quality.
Comments, quotes and sharing work just like on any other messaging platform: WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Instagram Direct, Snapchat, Viber, Telegram, etc.
The difference that makes Google Messages so special is that you don’t need a social media account; you can only message others using your phone number.
