WhatsApp started working on Status update entries in March and it should be available to users globally soon as it is now available for beta users on Android.
The people at WABetaInfo We are pleased to announce that Status update mentions feature is available for Android users on WhatsApp beta version 2.24.20.3. To mention a contact, click on the ‘@’ button next to the caption bar when sharing a photo or video via a Status update.
The mentioned contact will receive a notification when you mention them in your status. They can reshare the notification with their audience via a reshare button. This button will appear next to the reply box when you view the status the contact is mentioned in.
However, unlike Instagram, when the mentioned contact reshares the status, the identity of the original creator remains private. Similarly, the mentioned contact is not visible to your status viewers. It remains private, meaning that the contact information is not visible to your status viewers.
Mentioned contacts will be notified when they are mentioned in a status update
The source says that the contact mentioned in your status will be able to see your status even if they have been banned from viewing other status updates through the status’s privacy settings.
It’s not yet clear when WhatsApp will make this feature public, but those who can’t wait to use the feature can sign up for the beta program.
