You know how it is, even though you promised yourself years ago that you would never do it again, you still keep pressing the button. Yes when websites ask you to send them notifications? If so, you know how annoying it is when your notifications are flooded with random notifications from random websites.
Thankfully, Google Chrome has a solution: opt out directly, within the notification itself. This is launching first on Pixels, but it promises to come to more Android devices “soon,” and it will offer an opt-out option within the notification. Tap that, and you’re done — at least with the spam from that particular site (sorry, very important notifications).
You’ll have to go through them all one by one, of course. And don’t worry, if you ever accidentally hit unsubscribe, you can undo your action and continue bathing in spam if you want.
In addition to this feature, Chrome is also getting an improved Safety Checkup, which will automatically run in the background and revoke notification permissions from sites that Google Safe Browsing determines are “tricking users into granting the permission” (so, you know, most of them).
The new Safety Check will notify you of actions it’s taking, such as revoking permissions from sites you no longer visit, flagging unwanted notifications, and more. It will also remind you of things that need your attention, such as security issues that need to be addressed.
Finally, you can choose to grant permissions such as access to your camera and microphone only once. Once you leave the site in question, the permissions are revoked and the site can no longer use them until you explicitly grant them again.
